Prof. Schieber's Research Group studies the physical properties of complex fluids. Examples of complex fluids are polymers, liquid crystals and self-assembled surfactants. The research is both theoretical and experimental. Theoretically, we develop and study models to predict the relaxation, rheology, diffusion and optical properties of complex fluids in flow and in dynamic equilibrium. Our theoretical work is complemented and greatly aided by collaborative experimental work performed in the Polymer Center here at IIT, and with other collaborators around the world.
On the experimental side, we use an optical technique called Forced Rayleigh Light Scattering to measure thermal conductivity. We also study these properties in flows. For further details about our research, see the publications and preprints available by the link on your left.
